Artificial Intelligence is slowly on the rise within our society, whether it be in art, writing, or even full out robots. Over the last year, many people have considered the ethics of AI and what it could become over time if not monitored. So, the Del Mar Dispatch wanted to ask the students and staff, what is their opinion on AI?
Lamees Arikat, an art student, expressed her concerns about the impact of AI in art. “I think that it’s kind of messed up, because sometimes it can take credit for real art, like work from a real life artist, and just take that in two seconds and kind of rip it off.”
With a similar idea, Emily C.A, another art student, commented on the creative aspects, but was able to speak on it in a positive light as well. “It gets rid of the creativity of making something, but also in a way, it can be inspiration for art.”
“As you get to higher levels of school it’s very noticeable.” Tai Bambusa, an English teacher, spoke on the matter of AI in writing, “It’s all very repetitive, they all have the same exact pattern in the writing.”
Annie Alston, an art teacher, was also questioned on her thoughts on AI’s potential impact on artists. “It could maybe affect the jobs of artists at some point, because I know there’s a lot of artists that live off of selling their art, but I think people will want art made by a real person more.”
“It’s good for the future though. Some things need to definitely get laws put on it, like the deep fake stuff, but other than that I think a lot of AI stuff is helpful.” Davina Julian says, reflecting how while many have concerns about ethics and creativity, many can also see the potential benefits.
