Kathy Merino, a sophomore attending Del Mar High School, has long followed the news. She grew up dreaming of pursuing a career in journalism, and reporting on crime, particularly on cold cases. The most interesting cases to her are the Josef Fritzl case, involving extremely abusive family members. She is interested in how a father could do such a thing to his daughter. Kathy has been on Del Mar’s soccer and field hockey teams and shows up to every practice. She also attends three gatherings a week at church, where her father is the pastor. After high school, Kathy plans to attend college, and hopes to become an investigative journalist.
