The holiday filled with joy, big meals and giving thanks is coming up, along with family traditions and fun times.
This week, a couple students from Del Mar have been kind enough to share their family traditions during this holiday season.
Joshua Martinez, a senior, talks about his thanksgiving traditions and a tradition that he does every year with his family
“I dine with my family at the dinner table and we feast on turkey and appetizers and eat pumpkin pie”
“After we eat and talk, we like to decorate the christmas tree together”
However, Venice Ornelas, a junior, spends her thanksgiving the same but has different traditions that she shares with her mom.
“I get together with my family and we eat, my favorite meal is turkey”
“After thanksgiving with my family, I help my mom make thanksgiving decorations for the school she works at”
Unlike the normal dinner and quality time you spend with your family, Lei Platon, a sophomore, spends her thanksgiving a little differently.
“When we finish eating our Thanksgiving dinner everyone goes out shopping for christmas gifts together”
“My favorite tradition that we do is when we wake up early and we watch the macy’s Thanksgiving parade”
Unlike turkey and mashed potatoes being the main course of a thanksgiving dinner, Mikayla Welch, a sophomore likes to make something a little out of the ordinary thanksgiving meal with her family during thanksgiving.
“My favorite tradition is going to my aunt’s house with family and making homemade pasta, we also like to bring some home after”
Thanksgiving is also a holiday to catch up with loved ones and isn’t always about food or traditions, and Chloe Yuen, a freshman, talks about how she and her family spend their time together.
“We get together as a family and eat, we also like to talk and update each other about life”
For others, food and tradition are the most important things on Thanksgiving day. Valeria Arroyo, a senior, talks about what she and her family like to make and do during their holiday.
“I like to hang out with family, and we always make tamales during thanksgiving, and they are always at the dinner table every thanksgiving”
“Before we eat we all share who we’re thankful for and I really like that part”
Thanksgiving is a day to reconnect and laugh with family, and these classmen were honored to share the traditions and what a normal thanksgiving day would look like to them in their homes with their family.
