This is the second year of having the Corridos club here at Del Mar, founded by Noel Herreraflix who has always had a great passion for original Mexican music. He says that it’s been challenging over these years but overall it gets easier the more he practices and gets help from his club members. The club usually hosts special events to get more people involved and interested in joining because there are about 8-10 members including Herreraflix.
The club also has practices for all of them to come together as well. Herreraflix talked about how he tries to maintain a steady practicing pace, by practicing after school everyday typically for a few hours at a time whether that be when he’s alone or with his group members.
The Corridos club is known for having performances during lunch in the quad, they sing and play a few songs. They started with their first few performances in the spring of the 2022-2023 school year. They had practiced several times beforehand and played many songs that students were familiar with. They also have a few performances scheduled for later on in this school year.
Corridos is a song style traditionally made by Mexican people, and it’s been developed over the past 200 years in Northern Mexico. Many people fall in love with the music as it tends to have a rapid tempo and strong lyrics to go along with it. Del Mar is still new to having the club but welcomes them greatly in hopes of this club growing more.
