The drama “I am Frankenstein,” by John Hamon and directed by theater teacher Chloe Biggs reveals two individuals, Victor’s monster and teenage writer Mary Shelly, both tormented by their origins. Mary writes a tale with herself and the chorus of the Blackbirds. As this goes on, Victor, an obsessed student with the reincarnation of humans, reincarnates a monster. The creature yearns for revenge after Victor leaves him behind.
Chloe Biggs explained, “It opens, recapping the kind of the week that Mary Shelley wrote the Frankenstein novel, and then it delves into the world of the book, and it’s an adaptation of the book.”
“Students this year that have really big goals that have never had a featured part before. Having to prepare that big of a part is a lot of work. It’s not easy to do. They’ve all managed to figure it out,” Biggs explains.
She emphasized how the actors and crew were capable of a more serious and dramatic play, contrary to last year which was more comedy-driven.
Biggs stated that making this play happen took a total of 200 hours, from auditioning to practicing five days a week.
Audio Playback Mikayla Welch shares her experiences behind the scenes, expressing, “The play is going good. Good working with the tech products or the tech part of the play.”
Mikayla voiced she had to learn to do the audio setup in 2 weeks and it has been tedious and challenging for her, but it was worth it in the end “It went smoothly, and all the actors enjoyed what they were doing, and the tech enjoys what they’re doing.”
The cast demonstrated hard work and dedication through their craft for the play.
“I Am Frankenstein” left a huge impression on me, and I hope to look forward to the Theatre Crew’s upcoming projects.
