The annual AVID Cram, a study session for AVID students has just taken place on Dec. 11 from 2:45 pm to 5:45 pm in room 39, held by all AVID teachers. This was a time for AVID students to study for finals amongst their peers and release some stress they may have towards the semester’s end. In addition to this study time opportunity, Mrs. Braithwaite provided nachos and cheese.

The Dispatch spoke with a few students who attended the study session.

Catleia Platon, a sophomore AVID student says, “The study sessions would probably benefit you because studying with a lot of people can honestly be really helpful… It’s nice when there are other people that are going through the same struggles as you or like are taking the same classes as you. Doing it closer to finals is really helpful for everybody.”

Ruby Aguirre, a senior AVID student said, “The study session benefits us because our AVID teachers are in the classroom. So if we have any questions regarding AVID, we have direct support. I think it would benefit us if we did [the study session] for the grading period. So like six-week grading periods. From what I’ve noticed like there wasn’t many freshmen there so maybe trying to motivate freshmen to get more involved with AVID activities.”

Zulema Hernandez, a Junior AVID student added, “I think it’s beneficial because the teachers I had that were, like, AVID teachers were my personal teachers. So it helped clear up the assignments. I think …like, probably around the six weeks.” Hernandez continues, “It’s like giving you a way to get self-control and independence, also more responsibility throughout the year. I think probably how the teachers circulate around the classroom more and like ask the students what exactly they’re working on and how they can help them.”
