The first introduction or teaser of a potential Shrek 5 was near the end-credit scene in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. It showed a green ogre walking off into the distance while in the land called Far Far Away.
“I think it’s gonna be not that good. Like they’re just desperate to keep it going,” said Jessica Burkhart, a senior.
Shrek 5 uses a different art style than the first movie, making it look unfamiliar to fans.
“They need to give it up,” said Burkhart, “it’s very possible for it to be AI.”
Based on the teaser, Shrek 5 leans into the younger generation’s sense of humor with TikTok and recurring memes.
Shrek is shown scrolling on the Magic Mirror which depicts random images and videos of himself dancing.
“I think it’s just like they’re trying to make it more appealing to kids. But it just looks kind of bad,” Burkhart said, “which is why they’re making it so much like Gen Z.”
“It’s gonna be something really cheesy, like the daughter’s trying to rebel, and you’re different, and Shrek is gonna be like, ‘this is the way you humans hate the ogres, and you have to live this way. This is just how life is.’ And daughters like, ‘No, Dad, you don’t have to live like this anymore. It’s okay now!’ and then it’s gonna be eugh,” stated Burkhart.
