Del Mar’s boys JV volleyball wins against Independence High School on April 3. Del Mar won the first set (25-17), but lost the second set (13-25), eventually winning the third set (15-8).

“I feel surprised because we’re doing pretty good and we have a good win and loss record and we’ll see what happens,” said Mike Aitken, the boys JV coach.

Aitken says he has had his team work really hard on passing and serves which has prepared them for tough games like this. He says some things they can work on more is their communication skills and watching the play unfold.

“I think in the first two sets they were down but in the third set they came back up and didn’t give up,” said Coach Aitken.

Nicholas Rienhart, a sophmore, says he thinks something he could have done better on was snapping his wrist more when hitting to get the ball over.

Some challenges he and his team faced were not passing well and not having the best communication.

“I thought I and the team played pretty well, I got the game winning point and I think that’s good,” said Rienhart.

Jayson Cabatcha, a freshman, says some of his challenges were letting the ball drop and not communicating enough.

“Me and the team supported each other by carrying each other up when we did good or a mistake…I feel that me and the team did good and you shouldn’t talk bad about the other team,” said Cabatcha.
