Prop in “I am Frankenstein” play

This November, Del Mar High School is coming out with the play, “I am Frankenstein” by John Hammond directed by Ms.Biggs, the school’s theater teacher. The play will be performed by students and was inspired by the director’s favorite author, Mary Shelly, who will also appear as a character in the play. Unlike previous productions at the school, this play is more focused on horror and serious themes.

Many actors are new to theater, but they are heavily supported by their proud teacher. The students have prepared extensively for the play, including a table read. The tech crew plays a crucial role in building the set and making it feel realistic.

The first performance is on Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Theater at Del Mar.  The following dates occur on Nov. 6 – 14th with the understudies performing. The main cast will perform on Nov. 7 – 16, with shows at 7:00 p.m., except for the Nov. 16 performance, which will be at 2:00 p.m.

Actor Mercy Madlaing, who plays Elizabeth, enjoys her time on set and has a passion for acting. Although she’s interested in musicals, as a senior, she wants to try something new. “I just enjoy acting in general,” She said. “I love interacting with the other characters, and just like seeing how her story [Elizabeth] unfolds.’’

Stage Manager Eamonn Baker, a junior, acknowledges that it’s currently very difficult for the cast members and crew due to the limited rehearsals. However, he believes it will all come together in the end. He was the spotlight operator last year and was trained by the previous stage manager for his current role. Despite the difficulties, he is grateful for his position.

This concludes the preview  of “I am Frankenstein play.” By Ms. Biggs. They all hope to see you there!
