May is mental health awareness month. Del Mar is honored this month by launching Mental Health Awareness Month Workshops for students and staff who need it.

On May 13, located in the library during lunch and flex, there was a Mental Health Career Exploration which is a hearing on social work professions from people who work in the field.
On May 16, a Healthy Boundaries Workshop was held in the wellness center during lunch and flex. The YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) discussed several topics of healthy boundaries within relationships and friendships.
To end off the Mental Health appreciation, on May 19, an Angst Movie and Discussion was held in the wellness center from 2:00pm-3:30pm.

“Angst is a documentary that raises awareness and understanding of anxiety. Come watch the documentary and have a short discussion after,” reads a flyer held up in room 1.
Although it does not end there, as the wellness center has been around for approximately 5 years here at Del Mar High School.
“I think it gives students a good place to take a break. You are able to bring a pass and take a 10 or 15 minute break, where you can either use the space independently or have a safe place to talk to somebody” said Ms. Katie, the face of the Wellness Center.
There are commodities such as puzzles, a weighted blanket, materials to create artwork and more.
“We added in three different office spaces so that it’s not just me in here, but it’s also our Cassie counselor and then our intern” said Ms. Katie.
Alongside those physical stress relievers, there are almost always two staff members located within the room that are there to help, and sometimes even an intern.
For more information on the Wellness Center, there will be flyers posted throughout the school’s classrooms, emails being sent out via student center, and a large sign directly in front of the Wellness Center.
“I’m happy when people reach out and ask questions, anytime a student has a positive connection at school, they are more likely to succeed,” said Ms. Katie.
Remember, you are never alone on your journey—seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. There is always someone ready to support you, so do not hesitate to reach out and take that first step forward.
