Students at Del Mar High School express themselves in a variety of fashion trends, each reflecting uniqueness and creativity.
Jordan Welker
Jordan Walker, a senior, stands out at school with her mixed style of streetwear and grunge. Welker’s outfits consist of thrifted baggy clothes, layers of jewelry and dull tones. She developed this style during high school, and found herself feeling more “comfortable with colors as it expressed her better than just black clothing”.
“Don’t be afraid to not fit into a category,” said Welker, “don’t prevent yourself from actually expressing who you are, just because other people are going to view you as that.”

Mikayla Welch
Mikayla Welch is a junior with a style inspired by social platforms like Pinterest and TikTok. She tends to use her style to express more of her “girly” side while also staying “comfortable with tank tops and baggy pants”. Welch believes that her type of style isn’t that original since she mainly finds all her outfits from content creators, but in the end, her clothes still represent her as an individual.
Welch believes that a good way to dress well is to start getting inspiration.”“Usually some mornings I’ll, like, go on Tiktok, or I’ll go on Pinterest and look on there to see if I can relate anything to my closet,” said Welch.
Jocelyn Diaz
Jocelyn Diaz is a creative junior with her unique thrifted fashion sense. During middle school, she did not have the ability to have creative freedom with her clothes because of their school uniform, but once she reached high school, Diaz decided to experiment with her fashion. Diaz believes her type of style can change depending on what she grabs and puts together from her closet; it is not always the same, but in the end, she says it “expresses her loud and vibrant personality.”
“You really have to get used to people looking at you, because whenever I go out and I’m more, like, dressed out, even more than this, I’ll always have adults giving me the side eye or something, you know,” said Diaz, “but you kind of have to get used to that. And you have to get used to being bad sometimes, like you have to suck a little bit to get better. It happens to everyone. It’s a normal thing. Practice makes perfect.”
Lailani Jordan
This sophomore, Lailani Jordan, expresses herself with a layered fashion style that emits her personality of being “bright and cheerful.” Jordan’s style is inspired by different kinds of Japanese fashion. Onto these outfits, she enjoys adding small keychains and figuring out new and creative ways to make her style evolve.
“Find any clothes that you like, specifically layered together,” said Jordan, “find colors that are cohesive with the rest of your outfit, and just like, add key chains, and add whatever you want.”
Santiago Victoria
Santiago Victoria is a senior who prefers a more “casual look.” He can be very skilled with his craft of sewing and altering clothing to match his style. Victoria is very influenced by social media and even uses the internet to find some of his clothing. His go to colors are white, gray, and black. Victoria’s outfits commonly include baggy pants, and alternates between shirts and sweaters that match his more “comfortable, casual style”.
“Honestly, I don’t care what people think,” said Victoria, ”I just feel like the main thing you should think is, dress the way you want, not the way people think you should.”
