The haunted house will be open from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. The theater department is hosting a haunted house with the theme “Twisted Fairy Tales,” featuring stories like “The Three Little Pigs” and “Hansel and Gretel.”.
Ms. Biggs, the performance art teacher at Del Mar High School, and her students decided to bring back the haunted house, which had not been held since 2017.
The haunted house will include props, actors, and 12 to13 rooms that tell a story.
“All of the theater students are either serving as scare actors inside in full makeup and costume, or they’re helping out with behind the scenes, like resetting the room, setting things up,” said Ms. Biggs.
Ms. Biggs explained that there will be two versions of the haunted house. “[The] normal version is pretty scary, like there’s jump scares and stuff like that,” she said. However, participants don’t have to worry because the scare actors are instructed to not touch the audience. For those who prefer a less intense experience, Ms. Biggs mentioned that they have a “toned-down version, so [students] can still enjoy it and have it be more like spooky vibes and less like terrifying.”
Biggs said, “I thought that it would be a really good project to bring back, because I feel like our community would really enjoy it, and it might be a way to get some people who aren’t already in the performing arts, like more interested in what we do.”
As a reminder, these activities are all available from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Ms. Biggs also mentioned that the haunted house is “gonna have a photo booth that [the] yearbook kids are running, and then ASB is doing carnival games and snacks out front. So it’s gonna be a multi-department event. So there’s gonna be a lot to do.” All are included with an entry fee of $10.
