Del Mar vs. Silver Creek Softball – April 24, 2026.

Del Mar fell to Silver Creek 17–3 in a league softball game on April 24, 2026, as the Dons continue to search for their first win of the season. Entering the game with a 0–10 record, Del Mar faced a strong Silver Creek team that took control early and maintained that same control throughout the game.

Silver Creek set the tone in the opening inning, scoring five runs to take an early 5–0 lead. They added one run in the second inning and three more in the third inning to extend the lead to 9–0. Del Mar responded in the third inning putting two runs on the board, but could not sustain the momentum.

Niarah Aimonetti delivered a key hit to help bring in one of those runs and put the Dons on the board. Del Mar showed defensive effort at the start of the game, including two early outs recorded by Angelina Lopez.

Silver Creek’s pitcher, Evangelina Cuevas, responded by limiting further scoring and keeping Del Mar from building a larger rally with many strikes. Defensively, Silver Creek prevented Del Mar from building rallies after their third-inning runs.

Del Mar started Bella Rodriguez as pitcher before subbing her out halfway through the game for Naomy Diaz. The switch helped slow Silver Creek’s momentum for a stretch, though the visitors continued to add runs later on in the game.

In the sixth inning, Del Mar scored their final run, when Kaylee Tuna had an RBI, driving in Aimonetti to make the score 11–3 in the sixth inning, with three runs overall for the Dons. However, Silver Creek answered with two more runs in the sixth inning and six more runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead and secure the 17–3 win.

Despite the loss, Del Mar showed improvement at key moments, including scoring in multiple innings and generating several hits against a strong opponent.

Senior Kaylee Tuna adds that “We’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but we’re more bonded as a team now and we are working together better than at the beginning of the season.” Tuna says. “We’re still developing, but I think we can get at least one win.”

As the team moved up a league from last season, players have worked to adjust to a higher level of competition.

Despite the challenges, team chemistry has remained a key focus. “We all recognize our standing in B league, but at the end of the day we all genuinely enjoy being together as a team and having fun during practices and games.” Player Phatima Salto says, “ Which builds motivation through our sense of community.”

Salto also pointed to changes from last season, including an increase in team size and the addition of new players.

“Some differences compared to last year would be a growth in numbers on the team, specifically new girls who’ve never played softball which is always good for the team”. Salto says. “Our biggest challenge has been losing our starting pitcher last year and having to train new people as pitchers”.

Del Mar will look to build on its offensive moments as the team continues league play. The Dons, still seeking their first win of the season, return to the field on May 5 against Piedmont Hills, where they will try to turn progress into results.
