Despite the loss of Del Mar’s Homecoming game, the JV score being (6-8) and varsity (0-31), Roger Leal and Eli Lenihan stood out as the Most Valuable Players showing their contribution and dedication to their teams.
The JV coach, Kevin Mazzone praised Leal for his full commitment to the team.
“He’s simply our MVP for tonight’s game because he does a little bit of everything for us, without questioning, just with full commitment. He does whatever we ask him,” said Coach Kevin.
Leal said that the homecoming game was not his best, however, he added “I worked hard during the off-season, so I’m proud of myself.” Leal also says one thing he could improve is being a better leader for his team and being able to meet them offensively.
Robert Chapman, the varsity coach, said their sophomore quarterback, Lenihan, played exceptionally well.
“We’ve had some issues this year at quarterback. We’ve played three quarterbacks in three games, so it’s like a revolving door. Eli came in tonight as a sophomore and I thought he played well, probably his best game of the year,” stated Chapman.
When interviewed about being MVP, Lenihan said “We’ve been putting in a lot of work, practicing hard all summer. We started pretty good, but losing hurt.
