The girl’s varsity softball team lost a tough first league game (10-2) against Christopher High School last Friday on March. 7.
“It’s upsetting because I know the potential of our girls, but this is also something for us to know what we need to work on, because it’s only our first game and we have many more games to go, so I know we’re gonna do a lot better from here on out,” coach Amanda Perez says about the loss.
Perez says some aspects of her game plan that worked well were their pitcher having a great performance and the girls being aggressive with batting.
Niarah Aimonetti, a junior, says “I really could have done a lot better, it was our first league game so you know mistakes are gonna happen but we need to pick it up for the rest of the season.”
Aimonetti says one challenge she and her team had was not communicating enough on the field and had instances with the ball being thrown to a different base, which she says let the runners take more bases.
“In the dugout everyone is cheering each other on and supporting one another saying ‘let’s go and ‘you got this’,” said Aimonetti.
Bella Rodriguez, a freshman, says her team cheered each other on by supporting one another when making a mistake. Rodriguez says she and the team had challenges with catching the ball and feels that there were moments she could have done better at batting.
“I feel that we could have done better but yet again it is our first game,” Rodriguez said about the loss.
